The Future of Education

Northampton Diocese has chosen the Multi-Academy Trust model for our schools as we believe this builds upon already strong partnerships between schools.    We have been committed to this model since the Diocesan Trustee decided that in the light of the current political agenda  all our schools would seek academy status.  The Secretary of State for Education has recently published Educational Excellence Everywhere, the Governments five year plan for education in England.  The vision was amended in May 2016, when when the government decided that high performing schools will not be compelled to convert.

Further information about how MAT's are structured and governed can be found in the National College of Teaching and Leadership publication Governance in Multi-Academy Trusts.

There are currently five Multi-Academy Trusts in our Diocese:

  • St Alban (Luton & Dunstable) - St Margaret of Scotland Primary; St Martin De Porres Primary, St Vincent's Primary, St Mary's Primary (Caddington) and Cardinal Newman Secondary.
  • St Francis of Assisi (Bedford) - St John Rigby Primary; St Joseph's Lower; St Gregory's Middle and St Thomas More Upper.
  • St Luke (North Northamptonshire) - Our Lady of Walsingham Primary Corby; St Brendan's Primary Corby; St Edward's Primary Kettering and St Thomas More Primary Kettering.
  • St Thomas of Canterbury (Northampton) - St Gregory's Primary, St Mary's Primary; Good Shepard Primary and Thomas Becket Secondary.
  • St Peter Catholic Academy Trust (Slough) - St Joseph's High School, St Anthony's Primary School and St Ethelbert's Primary School.

We have collected some useful documents to help with Academy conversion have a look at the list below:

Are you interested in becoming an Academy Representative or Director?  Representatives undertake a similar role to that of a Foundation Governor.  The MAT Board is made up of Directors who act to set the strategy of the MAT, uphold its legal position and hold the individual academies to account.  Directors are registered at Companies House and are bound by such legislation.
